I may not make the ten / twenty best lists, but I have a really
good group of readers, and I appreciate the time that they spend on me.
Not exact matches
Because some
groups have thousands
of members or more — and are therefore filled with potential
readers and customers — they are ripe targets for spammers, as
well as for
well - meaning content creators who just want to spread their messages as far and wide as they can, without due concern for where it gets placed.
For all the reasons mentioned above, as
well as many others, most
readers will have trouble thinking
of these men as belonging to any kind

groups etc. and then there are the «real» opportunities that are so much harder to facilitate and organize (and pay for e.g. expense vs profit) like community or regional events and networks as you point out above, but I feel really strongly that the most important thing for an author to do in order to build a loyal paying (italics) fanbase / readership is to produce
good quality works that are publicized properly and to spend time interacting with those

An Indie writer has his

of an editor is to polish a book that's already been workshopped in a
group or critiqued by several beta

good books.
Better yet, partner to create a shared
group of beta
readers you can both turn to when you're ready for feedback.

I'm hoping this new book surprises me and really does
well in a few categories I haven't written as much in yet, bringing a new
group of readers to my other books.
This does not mean you should avoid distribution, and if you have a
well established
group of followers out there, distribution will serve you
well in the long run as
readers find you through retail sites (again, largely Amazon).
