Blue Mountain Gallery presents biOcular, an exhibition by Anne Diggory that includes hybrid works combining photography and painting in urban and Adirondack landscapes as well as the clutter of everyday living.

Alice Neel: Painted Truths was considered by Anne Wagner the best exhibition of 2010 in an article in the December 2010 issue of Artforum and one of the top ten exhibitions of the year by Laura Cumming in the Observer (London).

Included in the exhibition are paintings and works on paper from 1976 through 2013, including works on found objects and vintage book pages as well as the explicit photorealistic paintings that have recently attracted much international attention.

Kathleen Best Gillmann of Burke is set to open an exhibition of her paintings depicting coastal landscapes titled «Vision at Water's Edge» beginning July 6 at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria.

Published on the occasion of her first exhibition at David Zwirner in fall of 2010, this beautifully designed and produced catalogue — with a text by noted curator and art historian Joachim Pissarro — features Suzan Frecon's most recent large - scale oil paintings, along with newly commissioned color photography of exhibition and studio installation views, as well as the artist's notebooks and sketches.

Burke resident and artist Kathleen Best Gillmann's acrylic painting «Beach Houses at Lord's Point (Journey Home, 3)» is an example of work from her upcoming exhibition «Vision at Water's Edge» that opens at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria on July 6.

This exhibition gathers Freilicher's paintings and drawings, as well as two videos by Rudy Burckhardt, and features four vitrines containing photographs, book covers, letters, and manuscripts — some poems with lines crossed out and handwritten additions in the margins — that point to the interrelated friendships between painter and poets, and to the development of work at hand.

The exhibition will include Kürten's most recent large paintings, executed in acrylic and ink on linen, as well as more than twenty smaller paintings on primed cardboard.

Situating itself within current art historical and political debates, the exhibition considers work by self - taught, spiritually inspired and incarcerated artists, alongside other projects based in performance, socially engaged practice and the archive, as well as painting, drawing, sculpture and assemblage, that make insistent reference to place.

Senior curator Jennifer Powell explains the exhibition will include «early sculptures and works on paper from the late 1930s onwards as well as large scale paintings from 1940 - 51, the period in which Pousette - Dart was part of the burgeoning New York art scene and developing Abstract Expressionism.

From her start at the Bronx Museum of the Arts in the late 1980s to her assistant curator position at MoMA — where from 1995 to 2001 she oversaw the first American solo museum exhibitions for pathbreaking artists like Luc Tuymans and John Currin — Hoptman has remained steadfast in her belief that good paintings will always be relevant.

The exhibition rewards a bit of work at the gallery, such as climbing the stairs toward the second floor for a better view in the stairwell of Blue Blush, a horizontal work that reads more as a still life than the figural suggestion of the vertical paintings.

As well as some knockout paintings (with some, like Hans Eworth's splendid portrait of Mary I, on rare loan from other institutions), the exhibition presents, in its interpretation material, the fruits of the gallery's five - year research project Making Art in Tudor Britain.
