In recognition of the need for more and especially
better clinical preparation, researchers are now arguing for a shift away
from the typical student teaching experience as a distinct and final step in completing preparation and toward integrating clinical components into the preparation experience early and throughout the program.30 A number of programs
across the
country have made this shift, including by incorporating residency models into their
teacher preparation programs, 31 but this kind of program design is still relatively uncommon.
