What choices would such a
firm have, other
than the conventional (and somewhat pricey) legal DM vendors (i.e. OpenText and Interwoven), whose work is
good but doesn't quite scale this
small.
Personally I think that for the
smaller firm, products that incorporate some DM into a wider case management system are a
better choice
than a plain DM system.
The bottom line is that big companies can deliver greater client service —
better even
than most solos and
small firms.
If a typical
small firm does conveyancing, pays a premium of, say, # 25,000, has one claim per year, and the average lender claim costs, say, # 50,000, it is not hard to see why an insurer might not find the proposition attractive, even though the
firm is
well run, and its claims record is
better than average.
There plenty of
smaller firms of a dozen or so lawyers who stay
small, focus on quality, and provide
better more economical service
than larger
firms.
In fact, these
small law
firms can help you learn to use effective body language, handling meetings, interview clients, and writing a compelling brief etc. in a much
better way
than a large
firm where you are just a tiny, almost invisible player who is there for a few weeks.
There are many benefits to working for a large
firm including a greater variety of training programs and career paths, more managerial levels for advancement, and
better employee benefits
than those offered at
small firms.
