The relationship
between child abuse, poor mental health and IPV perpetration is complex but research among the general population is lacking.
We have analysed data to further understand the relationship
between child abuse, poor mental health and IPV perpetration in Gauteng province of South Africa in a sample of men from the general population.
We conducted Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with maximum likelihood estimation to test pathways / structural relationships
between child abuse, poor mental health and sexual or physical IPV perpetration.
Fig 1, Tables 5 and 6 show the final SEM model estimating the associations
between child abuse, poor mental health and sexual or physical IPV perpetration by men while adjusting for gender attitudes, other trauma exposures and employment.
