In short, the current Ontario green
energy policies have run up against Pielke's iron law of
climate change: when citizens are faced with a major trade - off
between the economy
and the environment, the former will almost always prevail (Pielke 2010).

In practical terms, some odd coalitions can form for specific
policies between people who are worried about
energy supply or the impact of
energy imports on the U.S. economy
and people who are worried about
climate.
Given the close linkages
between energy policy, natural resources
and national interests, it should not be surprising that the
climate talks have avoided directly addressing fossil fuel consumption
and production.
In a study released just hours before President Obama's speech, the American Council on Renewable
Energy (ACORE), CalCEF

The
climate wars
between the major political parties have cost us a host of lost business
and employment opportunities, even a global leadership role,
and yet we drift on without an
energy policy that might provide some relief to rising power costs
and some strategy to meet our commitments to reduce emissions.
This report addresses the current status of coal in Turkey as an
energy and greenhouse gas source, its impacts on health, the association
between increasing the share of coal in electricity generation
and climate and economic
policies,
and the discussions on «clean coal».

climate change successfully will require sensible government

But we're not quite there yet,
and in the spirit of helping out the handful of TreeHugger readers who haven't yet made up their minds
and to stimulate post-election
policy discussion, I'd just like to again point out
and summarize some of the differences
between Barack Obama
and John McCain on
energy and climate change
policy:
A leading thinker on geoengineering
and a prize - winning physicist, David Keith works at the interface
between climate science,
energy technology
and public
policy.

In a study of
energy -
climate legislation last year, the nonpartisan Institute for
Policy Integrity found that the House bill would generate
between $ 750 billion
and $ 1 trillion in total benefits
between 2012
and 2050.
