Over the last decade, the ten year survival rate increased by 11 per cent for all cancers combined, but the rates differ wildly
between types of cancer.
The team around Thomas Meyer, together with Holger Brueggemann, now at Aarhus University in Denmark, has previously found an association
between this type of cancer and another bacterium, Propionibacterium acnes.
This method is really sensitive to subtle differences, it's quick (can detect cancer cells within minutes), it can differentiate
between types of cancers, and is minimally invasive.
It means that cancers are not the same —
between types of cancers, between cancers in different individuals, even between cancer cells within the same person.
Not exact matches
Studies also show a strong link
between other
types of cancer and processed meats.
Several observational studies have looked at the link
between increased consumption
of onions and a reduced risk
of certain
types of cancers, including stomach, breast, colon, prostate and ovarian.
There is even some research to suggest a link
between carrageen and certain
types of cancer.

In a paper published in the May 5 online issue

Cancer Center detail their experience evaluating 34 patients
between December 2012 and June 2013 using a molecular tumor board — a new
type of advisory group comprised
of multidisciplinary experts, including those in the fields
of tumor genetics, basic science and bioinformatics.
Some studies suggest there's a connection
between shortened telomeres and some
types of cancer, but not other

Below is a sampling
of five - year relative survival rates for common
types of cancer diagnosed
between 1996 and 2004.

between the hepatocellular carcinomas and the liver
