than the
phone's design, and specifically whether Sony could finally ditch the massive
bezels that have haunted its devices over recent years (especially in light of the bezel-less Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus beauties).
Too much
bezel is visible on the A8, and other
than the fact that the front side of the
phone is all black, I don't see how one can call it «infinity» when you can see so much
bezel above all around the screen.
Buying a
phone is a more complicated decision
than just grabbing the one with the thinnest screen
bezel.
While the
bezels on either side of the screen are relatively thin, the top
bezel, which contains a front facing camera, speaker (for
phone calls) and Sony logo, and the bottom
bezel, that features a microphone, are both rather large, which gives the feeling that the handset is slightly longer
than necessary.
Considering there's a 5.9 - inch display, you could be forgiven for thinking the Mate 9 is a big
phone and while the display is certainly large, narrow vertical
bezels and a slim profile mean it handles a lot better
than other large devices.

Because there's very little
bezel on the iPhone X above and below the screen, the
phone is significantly shorter and narrower
than the iPhone 8 Plus; the iPhone X is also an ounce lighter
than the iPhone 8 Plus.
And thanks to the slim
bezel on the large 5.5 - inch display, the
phone doesn't feel overly huge - it's smaller
than an iPhone 6S Plus in every dimension.
For incoming text messages and emails, you can navigate through a set of «smart replies» with the
bezel to quickly respond rather
than dictating through voice or taking out your
phone.
The new
phone's screen - to -
bezel ratio is greater
than 90 percent, and though its bottom isn't shown in the image, it's only slightly taller
than the top

The XZ Premium's
bezels are so thick, it seems like Sony reached back into the design archives rather
