The study of comparative religion has
led fruitfully beyond the discovery of mere similarity to a better understanding of the unique quality of
biblical revelation.
Our analysis of the
biblical concept of
revelation has prepared for us a first degree analogical use of the term and here we are
led to a second degree analogy.
When extended to all the other forms of
biblical discourse we are going to consider, this concept of
revelation, taken as a synonym for
revelation in general,
leads to the idea of scripture as dictated, as something whispered in someone's ear.
I shall try to show that this mode of thinking illuminates our experience of all love, and
leads to a relevant interpretation of the
biblical assertions about God and his
revelation in Jesus Christ.
