I remember Double Dragon I and II using small
character sprites in a large area, which made the world feel
bigger and gave the series a unique perspective.
I remember being ansolutely jaw - droppingly awestruck by the original SF2 on snes - the
character sprites were
bigger and more dynamically animated on the screen than anything else from that era (think Super Mario, even Super Metroid, etc), and the control was something entirely new.
Arcsys have a bevy of 2D fighting games in their catalogue, so what if they just took the
characters and
sprites from a bunch of those games and mashed them all into one
big tag - fighting game?
Character sprites are
big and bold on screen, rife with expressive animation (the way a grunt's head expands into a bloody pop when you land a headshot is transfixing).
The game is heavily influenced by the original game, Ragnarok Online, but the
biggest difference is that RO2: LotS is a completely 3D game, while Ragnarok Online features a 3D environment with 2D
character sprites.
I like how the monsters you fight are much
bigger than your tiny
sprite characters lol.
As mentioned before, Ray Gigant features some absolutely incredible
character sprites that look lifted straight from a
big - budget anime production, complete with flowing robes, detailed weapons and gear, and a jaw - dropping quality of animation.
