As someone who — in the last eighteen months — has published with a

pubbed an ebook, I can tell you there's no easy route for the writer.
True, some self - published books do climb the bestseller lists because of the low price; several self -
pubbed authors have been snatched up by the
big houses.
They are either traditionally
pubbed authors who turned Indie or they are Indie authors who were picked up by a
big house.
Many authors reject full - service self -
pub companies for the same reasons they reject the
big traditional
houses: they want full control and full financial benefit.
Query agents and / or editors of publishers to land an traditional
pub deal with
big publishers like Random
House or Harper Collins, or small or indie press or even e-publishers.
Actually, indie / self
pub authors and many of the
big publishing
houses use Net Galley to distribute digital ARCs.
I don't think so, because physical bookstores are not that
big a market for most self -
pubbed authors in the first place — or even for second - string / midlist authors at major
houses (I'm married to one of those, and used to be one).
