Two little - known artists - professional tiler Allan Butt and
art enthusiast Rita Gav - have basically immortalised some of the
biggest stars from stage, screen, music and sports in mosaic form, with the pieces being given their first ever
public viewing at the city's View Two Gallery.
At a time when so much
art is
big, fabricated and
public, these works adhere to the small - is - radical concept.
Some viewers may relate this particular work to Puryear's monumental outdoor sculpture,
Big Bling, 2016, a 40 - foot - high
public art commission recently installed in Madison Square Park, New York, and currently on display in Philadelphia.
During the talk, Ms. Dee said the
art world's emphasis on fairs and booming prices has created an impossible situation for galleries that have «introduced or discovered and developed artists who would not be known to the
public otherwise,» because as those artists become popular, they leave to pursue more lucrative arrangements with
bigger galleries.
The Association for
Public Art (aPA), working with New York's Madison Square Park Conservancy in a first - time collaboration, brought internationally acclaimed artist Martin Puryear's
Big Bling to Philadelphia as a temporary installation.
From a documentary to a series of
public art sculptures, we've put together all the places you can see the dissident Chinese artist in the
big apple this season.
I may have questions about the focus on
big donors — too often at the expense of deeper analysis — in the opening exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern
Art, which opens to the
public May 14.
