CHITTENANGO, N.Y. — U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney says the Wild
Animal Park in Chittenango will not be
impacted by a
bill being considered in Congress, according to the congresswoman's Facebook post.
Bill Muir, an
animal genetics researcher at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, cautions that studies should be done to see whether there's any long - term
impact on the mice's health, but says, «my guess is that omega - 3's are good for us, [so] they're probably good for the mice.»
While
animal welfare organizations call the
bill a victory and hope that more states follow suit, critics are quick to point to job loss and the
impact on the end consumer, as well as a possible uptick in
animals sold on the black market.
The Ohio Senate Ways and Means committee has removed a contentious amendment in an unrelated, general tax
bill, HB 166, which would have
impacted how pet stores in Ohio acquire their
animals for sale.
Granted, the
bill's amended language does lessen its potential
impact on feral cats by restricting «the humane shooting of an
animal» to unincorporated areas «where hunting is not prohibited.»
However, we were very active supporting
bills that would have a positive
impact and equally as important, fighting
bills that would have a negative
impact on Maine's
animals.

Bill Pollak, a local veterinarian says, «I have been practicing veterinary medicine for 40 + years in Fairfield and can say without a doubt that the CCSNAP program — and the annual Big Fix campaigns — are having a significant
impact on the numbers of homeless
animals in our area.»

impact the ability for individuals to keep
animals confined in a fenced - in yard or in a suitable pen during the day while owners were at work and at night while owners are asleep.»
