I know this is a
bit off the subject, but since we're talking
about best deals for authors, has anyone used LuLu for their
ebook distribution and
publishing?
Per Kobo's Mark Lefebvre, the move away from $ 1.99 is clear Publisher's Weekly ran an article
about Kobo Writing Life (KWL) that included a great sound
bite about ebook pricing trends from Mark Lefebvre, Director of Self -
Publishing and Author Relations.
2) I suspect (and this is a
bit of a pet theory of mine) that Apple stays in the
ebook space primarily to disrupt the educational textbook market (I think that iBooks Author + iTunesU + «cheap» iPad 2s = a strategy for fostering disruption in education at the grass - roots level); their presence in trade
publishing is relatively incidental (this may have not been so at the start — I also suspect that launching iBooks along with iPad was initially a hedge against uncertainty
about user adoption and viable use cases for the iPad.
But I don't sense that CEO Tim Cook, and especially iTunes czar Eddy Cue, care much
about digital
publishing, possibly feeling a
bit burned by the government's
eBook lawsuit.
