All you need for homemade frozen
yogurt is the best quality organic whole milk
yogurt (preferably
from grass - fed cows) and a
bit of natural sweetener.
Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, which you can find canned in the Mexican aisle
of your grocery store, give the sauce heat and smokiness, while the creamy texture and a
bit of tang come
from Chobani's nonfat Greek
yogurt — one
of my favorite healthier sauce ingredients.
For the dressing, extract the roasted garlic
from its peel, and mash it with a
bit of the
yogurt and 1/4 teaspoon sea salt.
My usual has been a super fresh egg melded to a variety
of fresh tortillas made near my house (Tucson), a
bit of gouda goat cheese w / wilted garlicy greens + your lemony
yogurt sauce mmmm mmmmm mmmm my new favorite, I want to sing it
from the rooftops!
A breakfast salad is the perfect way to make sure you're getting a little
bit of everything you need — fiber and vitamins / minerals
from the greens and fruit, protein, fiber, and healthy fat
from the nuts and seeds, and protein and calcium
from the ricotta (or greek
yogurt).
I love to make mine
from scratch, with
bits of skin still on the potatoes, whipped with butter and plain Greek
yogurt.
I served it with some homemade heavy cream
yogurt cheese, which tasted a
bit like crème fraiche and finished it by drizzling some
of the plum sauce
from the plum reduction.
Remove
from grill and serve warm with some grilled pita bread, Bulgarian
yogurt, fresh cilantro, a
bit of fresh black pepper and a squeeze
of lemon if desired.
Remove baked eggs
from the oven and serve topped with guacamole (or on the side) and a
bit of Greek
yogurt or sour cream.
Remove
from oven and garnish with a handful
of chopped walnuts and raisins; serve warm or cold, topped with a little
bit of plain
yogurt and a drizzle
of honey, if desired
Protein came
from sardines,
yogurt, chicken, and cheese, and fat came
from grass fed dairy sources, fish, almonds, and a little
bit of dark chocolate.
Several ideas that you may have not thought
of yet include freeze dried berries (available
from your local natural food grocer or Wilderness Family Naturals (www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com), Salmon Jerky in Nourishing Traditions, dried sardines (available
from Asian food stores), Arrowroot Cracker
Bites (see recipe below), homemade popsicles made with raw
yogurt, raw cream, and fruit, and silver dollar Crispy Pancakes
from Nourishing Traditions.
Instead,
from time to time have some unsweetened soy
yogurt and mix it with sweet fruits, seeds (or nuts), oat bran or another good source
of fibre, and add some raisins, dates, or a little
bit of raw honey.
3) You can't save a
bit from a batch
of raw milk
yogurt to do the next batch.
