Although rail travel in the US is far from cheap and long haul services are often subject to lengthy delays, long distance routes like the Sunset can still provide reasonable value for tourists, especially if you're happy to «rough it a
bit» and sleep in your coach seat (which is comparable in size and comfort to a
business class seat found
on many planes).
Aeroplan is great because you can book one way awards, avoid fuel surcharges
on airlines like United and Singapore Airlines, they have one of the best search engines (although it can be a
bit slow), and a lot of their redemption rates for
business class are pretty reasonable.
The seats are different from the Club World offering and I suspect the crew may be a
bit more
on top of their game for an all
business class flight so the service should be pretty good.
Having almost a third of the Economy
Class cabin fitted with Main Cabin Extra seating should be good news for flyers who would like a
bit more legroom but don't want to splash out
on Business Class.
By following the steps above I found availability for
Business Class flights between London and Abu Dhabi
on dates just before Christmas (a great time to get a
bit of sun before the European winter really sets in).

The way the seats are arranged reminds me of
Business Class on American's 777 - 300ERs and, now that I look at it, the seat looks a
bit like the new American
Business Class seat too (although it does look more spacious).
Award space
on this route is even better than the LAX route, but still a
bit tough to come by in
Business Class.
As for
business class, 126,000 miles is a little
bit on the expensive side for miles especially since once again, you could use other airlines to get to Europe in
business class for much cheaper.
Searching about 5 to 6 months out, it was very easy to find awards for partners, such as ANA or Asiana in
business class but a
bit more difficult for me to find actual United flights
on its own metal.
Although I found the
business class seats
on the A350 to be much more sleek, I believe they may be just a tad
bit more narrow.
With American AAdvantage, you will still spend fewer miles if you fly British Airways» economy
class on award tickets, and it is a
bit of a wash
on business class.
With an expensive
business -
class ticket
on the same route, however, the situation ends up being quite a
bit different.
