I was originally going to
distress the
black paint by gently sanding it or going over it with crackle
paint, but I decided I liked the finished look as is and decided not to do anything else.
After transferring my letters I lightly
distressed the board, mostly around the edges, and used a knife point to «pick up» the
paint that was over the wax, revealing the chalky
black beneath.
I usually like to buy pieces that are wood, so I have a «clean slate» so to speak, but
black can look almost like dark wood when it peeks under a coat of
distressed milk
paint.

paint that I made with unsanded grout, and valspar signitire pose red,

A group of canvases, in
blacks, white, blues, and greys, are made with oil
paint mixed with materials including cold wax and marble powder to create visceral,

As a side note, if your piece of furniture was originally
black or some color other than the color you want to show through after
distressing all you have to do is
paint a coat of brown (or whatever color you choose to show through) on your furniture prior to
painting your primary color.
It looks like the vanity is in pretty good shape, so maybe she could
paint it
black and
distress it if she likes the way the one in the inspiration photo looks?
