I take a small cross-body bag (inside a small, collapsible tote on the plane), a raincoat,
black pencil skirt,
black dressier pants, a second pair of pants (somewhat more casual / sturdy but NOT jeans),
black cardigan sweater jacket,
black turtleneck, two
dressy tops, two somewhat causal tops, base layer (unless summer), undies, sleepwear and robe, two pairs of
shoes, flip flops, scarves, and some inexpensive jewelry.
Complete the outfit with a pair of good quality driver
shoes, preferably in
black, for a more
dressier look.
If you're in need of something
dressier for work but don't want yet another pair of
black or brown kicks, oxblood lends a modern feel to a traditional
shoe.
But you don't want to feel like you lack
shoes either — I usually take one pair of classic
black patent heels (maybe a second pair if I am going somewhere
dressy like New York or Paris), a pair of ballet flats, ankle boots, a pair of comfortable
shoes like converse or plimsols and a pair of gladiator sandals.
I could easily picture wearing these

shoes with anything from a feminine
black pencil skirt to a pair of high waisted trousers, all year long.
I did that for my trip to Paris in December, taking a pair of short
black boots from Mephisto (very comfortable even for lots of walking) and navy
shoes from Ecco (also for walking), with a pair of
dressier loafers «just in case» that I wore just once then again on the plane home.
I changed my
shoes later on in the evening to a pair of
black heeled slingbacks with diamante detail (here) and swapped the crop top for a white and grey striped shirt unbuttoned for a
dressier look.
Imagine if I added a
dressy white blouse (drape mock neck) and flat
black shoes with these jeans — they would be perfect for a night out.
I just bought a pair of Bruno Magli
black 2.25 ″ croc skin
shoes — they look like very well cut loafers on top but are extremely
dressy heels & perfect with pants.
