regardless of how much beneficial one on one information a mother receives, sometimes
just talking endlessly about her
bleeding, chapped
nipples and her fussy cranky baby is all the mother wants to do.
If you have cracked or
bleeding nipples, hold off on using cabbage until that has healed, or, if possible, you can
just place the cabbage on areas that are unaffected.
Add to this the trauma of
bleeding / cracked
nipples, mastitis and most distressing of all, watching my baby lose a dramatic amount of weight because websites like these had me convinced that if I
just persevered, everything would be ok.
My
nipples were now actually
bleeding and there had been moments during painful feeds in the dead of night where I
just wanted to wake Oli up and send him to the shop for some formula.
To be fair, not sure it would have made that much difference, since it's not like my newborn baby could read them with me and learn how to properly latch and help make sure infections and
bleeding nipples were a thing and make me tea so I could keep my supply up, but still;
just knowing how much of a struggle breastfeeding can be, and how normal it is to have complications and and to feel like giving up, would have definitely helped.
One day I started
bleeding bad from my
nipples while feeding and decided to
just stop.
Neither one had ever even heard of a lactation consultant and no one at the hospital had mentioned breastfeeding at all, so the two young people
just kept working through the cracked,
bleeding nipples, engorgement, over-supply, and other issues until they got it figured out ~ and then they were breastfeeders!
If you don't get help that breastfeeding pain will
just continue and you'll very quickly — like within a day — damage the actual
nipple causing it to crack and
bleed and become infected.
It may seem weird, but
just leaving your
nipples exposed after a feeding can really help ease the pain of cracked or
bleeding nipples.
When he was about 2 weeks old my poor
nipples were cracked and
bleeding and I have a fairly high tolerance for pain but every time he would latch on, I would
just burst into tears.
