School Health Advisory Council) has engaged the community by hosting free and fun wellness events where, for example, parents and kids have cooked a family meal together,
designed holiday crafts together, and created their own signature seasoning

Although some may wonder how this fits into a
design competition meant to propel
blended - learning
schools, from my perspective it's a smart grant because the reality is that many districts are unlikely to convert or open entire
schools as full
blended - learning programs.
As a reviewer for the NGLC secondary
school models, which seeks to not just fund those
schools using online learning but those really taking their approach the extra mile with innovative, push - the - envelope student - centric
designs, I have been struck further by how much
blended learning has arrived.
But Education Elements is smart to understand both how steep the
design challenges can be for districts in moving to
blended - learning models — and consequently where the action is today — as well as the opportunities
blended learning presents to rethink the use of time in
school, such that it can create
schools that transform teaching and learning for both teachers and students and rack up some wins in the process.
As
schools across the country adopt
blended - learning models, a few clear trends are settling in, and, at the same time, some groups — like the Next Generation Learning Challenges — continue to help
schools push the
design envelope on what's possible for students.
Having an entity like this that knows where the market is and will be for the years to come but also helps
schools handle the basic blocking and tackling of
design and implementation is critical to moving
blended learning forward across the country.

school designs rigorous projects that
blend STEM with other core subjects.

schools to support their

blended learning, technology planning looks more and more like instructional and curriculum planning with technology playing a supporting role in new
school and classroom
design.
In architect Larry Kearns» recent Education Next piece, «New Blueprint for K - 12
Schools,» their team had the opportunity to
design two new
school buildings that were created specifically to support
blended learning.
«In order for there to be larger market traction, the overall industry has to see more results,» says Anthony Kim of Education Elements, a nascent firm that
designs the technical back end for
blended schools.
He has pushed for state - of - the - art learning environments — breaking ground on a $ 230 million project to build two new high
schools, and securing a $ 3.5 million grant from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation to
design student - centered,
blended instruction.
