Personally, I don't think there's much to worry about here: I don't view
blogs as advertising, and referencing an accident to explain a point of law would fall within an educational, non-financially motivated exception to the rules.

There are many ways to promote: social media,
advertising on popular websites and
blogs, print
advertising in trade magazines, attending reader oriented conventions and events... but one of the best ways to get your book out there and build name recognition
as an author is through a virtual book tour.
I've been using a mixed approach of digital
advertising and sponsored articles (e.g. reviews and interviews)
as well
as outreach for organic reviews and book / author spotlights on indie book review websites and
blogs.
As Amazon affiliate program pays up to 15 % commission on sales made from
advertising efforts on a
blog or website...
Yesterday I spoke at an AAR / Association of Authors» Representatives panel together with Connor Raus (who runs digital
advertising agency CRKWD) about understanding social media and how to use it effectively —
as you know, a favorite topic of mine here on The Book Publicity
Blog.
Each sponsor receives a full page listing on NewPages with image
as well
as enhanced listings in our Big Lists; discounts on classified
advertising; news considered for our daily
blog; and more.
The loss of your
blog would be devastating to her & others like her, so keeping it
as it is with
advertising to support it may be best for most folks, especially those most needy.
I'll also be using this book to relentlessly test out some various book marketing sites and methods, such
as press releases, guest posts,
advertising venues, etc; then I'll update it (and this
blog) with a ton of data, facts and research.
As described on the
blog's About page (at least, until I revise the wording on that page later this week), the free books I tell you about are free at the time of posting, and I don't make any money off of the free book offerings; I also haven't charged
advertising to third parties for book promotions.

As for the online marketing side, that involves promoting both our ebooks and print books online: organizing
blog tours, placing banner ads and other
advertising, creating catalogues with CataList, pitching our books for review — including uploading e-galleys to NetGalley — maintaining and growing a presence on relevant social media sites, blogging, supporting our authors» online initiatives, and helping to publicize their offline events and activities.
Banner ads CAN be successful, if you find a
blog to
advertise on that
as exactly the right audience for your ad.
