I have been low carb for about 5 weeks and have yet to have
a blood ketone reading above 0.4.
In this first table, I'm showing
blood ketone readings taken four times per day, over five days.
Initially I lost quite a bit of weight in the first couple of weeks (I'm not overweight but am naturally very slim and have put on weight since becoming bedbound),
my blood ketone readings were in the «nutritional ketosis» mark (between 1.5 and 3) so I was feeling I was on the right track.

You can see in the second table that what was actually happening on September 10th was pretty high
blood glucose
readings, which is why my
ketones were down, and which jumped after lunch and supper, which I know were high in protein.
Yes, as your body gets keto - adapted, it uses
ketones more effectively and you'll see lower
readings even on the
blood ketone meter.

blood glucose and
ketone readings?
Your body will also achieve a
ketone blood reading of at least 0.5 mmol / L, something you can't achieve on a low - carb diet alone.
Some people may prefer the more accurate
reading of
ketone blood levels.
Many of the
blood glucose monitors on the market also have the ability to
read blood ketones.
I have the
blood ketone meter and monitor it 1 or 2x daily to see what foods affect my
readings.
My
blood ketones are generally around the 3 mark and my urine
reads as high as 8 sometimes during the day.
How do I get back into nutritional ketosis (1.5 - 3 in
ketone blood readings)?
Also, to mention the Atkins diet, in the book I
read, the diet begins with a two week very low carb diet [20 grams of carbo perday] in order to transition the body into a state of nutritional ketosis, using
ketones not glucose / insulin for energy generation; however, it is not intended to be a permanent such state but rather for the dieter to gradually add in carbs; however, is one added in only up to the limit, which varies from person to person, of carbs to just below the lvel that would transition out of ketosis, then Atkins would work with that in mind and requiring monitoring for
blood or urine
ketone levels and must needs be high fat,, moderate protein, and low carbs
You do want the
blood ketone and glucose
readings, they are equally important, but you also want to track everything that stresses you out.
Can being dehydrated and / or low
blood volume skew one's
ketone and / or
blood glucose
readings on the high side?
