Such a presence in the middle of the fishing season has caused WWF to raise serious concerns that some boats might be operating in contravention of international
bluefin tuna conservation rules.

bluefin tuna conservation for the Pew Environment Group, released the following statement in response to a request by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) for proposals to develop an electronic bluefin catch documentation system.

Many commercially fished species have been placed on the International Union for the
Conservation of Nature's list of threatened species, including southern
bluefin tuna, yellowtail flounder, Atlantic halibut, abalone, sturgeon, and several sharks.
Nobu sells a tremendous amount of endangered
bluefin tuna, and despite repeated warnings about the looming commercial extinction of this majestic fish from a vast international amalgamation of scientists,
conservation organizations, foodies, bloggers, aquaria, filmmakers, actors, and even a European prince, Nobu refuses to change its practices.

The scientific and
conservation communities have been calling for an international trade ban for years and Mathew told us last year about a report stating that Atlantic
bluefin tuna could disappear in as little as three years if current catch levels were maintained.
According to Miyahara, Japan feels that the International Commission for the

Tunas - and not the United Nations Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, referred to as CITES, should be the organization managing
