scheduling events with various stores all with their own full calendars, and bringing in a big enough audience at each venue to make it all worthwhile).

When
schedules go awry and stock dates slip, it really helps when publishers are willing to pull out all the stops to get
books to an
event.
You can
schedule designated times for these, such as your
book launch day with the hashtag of your title (for instance, my

event.
As you plan your marketing
schedule, don't forget to plan for holidays, festivals, professional gatherings, and other organizational
events that will offer prime selling opportunities for your
book.
Another reason to
schedule a
book event is if the
book takes place in that city.
EVERYTHING WAS F# & KED UP, from registration closing early the day before the conference began so people arriving that afternoon couldn't grab their badges (and not reopening until the morning's
events had already begun), to the goody room running low on
books, to editor / agent pitch appointments going massively off
schedule, to parties with no food, no drink, and hours - long lines.
Bookstores do their best to promote
events with in - store signage, information on their websites, newsletters and sometimes, advertising, and
book publicists do likewise by trying to
schedule interviews for the author with local media prior to the
event, but sometimes even the best efforts don't pan out.
As a
book publicist, I do hope that bookstore
events thrive (and I continue to
schedule bookstore
events with authors) but realistically, there are fewer
events — and, unfortunately, stores — than there were before, so I think it's important that we try new ways to get readers to stores.
Which is why if an author has no local connections and the
book's topic would not be of particular interest to a community, stores may be a little more reluctant to
schedule events.
Of course,
book promotion also involves
scheduling author
events, which is another area in which
book publicists often get questions.
So while
scheduling some
books events is a good thing, it is possible to go overboard and reach a point of diminishing returns.
