In fact these «new» methods were rebottled versions of earlier progressive schemes going back at least 100 years — as Diane Ravitch has documented in her recent

tests; teachers as coaches rather than sages; projects instead of textbooks.

Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) was formed in 1981 and includes a website which provides a wealth of gifted education recommendations and resources for parents that include names of speakers and workshop leaders,
books and research articles, contact information for active parent
groups, a list of mental health professionals that work with gifted students, and how to get a child
tested for gifted.

tests and accumulate points after reading
books — the Redwall series became very popular at my school library, especially with a
group of boys; they were thick and worth more points than just about anything else.
