The most important of those advantages is that US
airlines don't typically charge fuel surcharges
on award tickets
booked on their own flights, and often don't pass along their
partners» fuel surcharges.

You can
book airline awards on Turkish
Airlines or Lufthansa via Star Alliance
partners such as United, using 70,000 United miles each way in business class or 30,000 miles in economy.
Non-alliance
partner awards can not be found
on the Asia Miles website, so you'll need to look up
award space elsewhere (such as the operating
airline's website) and then call Asia Miles to
book the ticket.
ANA Mileage Club often passes

The

award still needs to communicate with the

Airlines will find their attempts thwarted: any
award in this carrier's first class cabin
on an Airbus A380 or Boeing 777 - 300ER is blocked in the system.

award charts for travel

booked on or after March 22.
That means you can
book award flights

awards on Star Alliance
partners.
If you want to fly
on different Alaska
partner airlines,

awards and get your two stopovers anyway.
Awards booked through American
Airlines using AAdvantage Miles don't come with surcharges... but that's not the case if you plan to use the miles for travel
on a number of American's
airline partners — make sure you factor in these surcharges when working out just how good a deal an
award booking is.
Also, these
partner awards sometimes don't appear
on the
airline's website, so you'll have to call to
book these
awards.
It's easier to use your miles with the ability to
book Awards at delta.com
on more
partner airlines than ever (22 total now).
You should be able to lower the fees by
booking flights
on American
Airlines, but keep in mind that the milage requirement will go up since Iberia charges more miles for certain
partners and you can't
book one - way
awards on American
Airlines with Iberia.

There is an added element to all of this that really causes confusion — it's what happens when you try to
book an
award with an
airline that doesn't charge «surcharges» and you then select flights
on that
airline's
partner that does.
This is unfortunate because only the cheapest
awards on a given route are made available to
partners — either other
airlines releasing
award space to Delta customers or
awards that Delta might let you
book with another program.
You can
book award flights
on the American
Airlines site for several of their
partners, but not all of them.
Although I don't fly United very often (mostly because when I do I deal with nasty / clueless employees or my travel reservations simply aren't honored), I rank their frequent flyer miles as the most valuable mileage currency out there thanks to low fees
on award tickets, the ability to
book one - way
awards and great
airline partners in Star Alliance.
