Yesterday's announcement in the New York Times that David Zwirner would be moving to a new $ 50m gallery in Chelsea only served to underscore the trend that ranges from developers buying large - scale art works to anchor complexes to real estate agents staging homes with borrowed art works and, as Architectural Digest recently pointed out, developers taking
booths at art fairs to pitch their projects.
The San Francisco dealer Jessica Silverman has a knack for putting together memorable
booths at art fairs, and her selection of paintings by the Canadian - born, Berlin - based artist Shannon Finley was a knockout, presenting a suite of abstractions that the artist created by using a palette knife to apply acrylic that he mixed with gels for a satiny, opalescent effect.
It all centers around not having
a booth at an art fair:
It is not clear that David Zwirner's offer to pay more for
his booths at art fairs was part of a premeditated strategy to deflect some of the frustration toward the growth of larger global galleries in the art market; or that, in making the offer, it would be treated as «breaking news» by the New York Times's social media team or picked up by a number of other art market reporters as an important or significant offer.
The combined show looked as good as one might expect a display of wares to look, but no better than a couple of decent
booths at any art fair.

The most curious and unusual sculpture of the
fair was found
at Dublin - based Kerlin Gallery's
