I would leave
the bottom cabinets the color they are, you are right, the lower ones takes a lot of wear and tear... Great work

If you like this look, select a light
color such as a creamy white or light gray for the top
cabinets and a darker
color such as a cobalt blue or even cranberry red for the
bottom ones.

and strip the green wallpaper and put up a «soft» wallpaper (white background, with a «hint» of whatever
color she chooses to paint the
bottom cabinet)... AS YOU CAN SEE, I am all for just KEEPING what one has, NOT tearing OUT.
Instead of browns / neutrals on the
bottom cabinets, why not go with a
color?

I would love to paint the
bottom set of
cabinets a gray
color, but I just can't pull the trigger on that one, plus the wall
color will be gray and I don't want to bore everyone to death.
After looking at your post and the paint
colors, I am thinking Peppercorn for the
bottom (just bought an old kitchen
cabinet this morn to help with that), and Mellow Coral for the top.
The tonal value is really close to the existing cream
color which you can still see on the
bottom cabinets.
These are the same
cabinet color (for top and
bottom) we picked, the same handles, and the same tile.
The trend is a darker
color on the
bottom cabinets with a creamy white on the top
cabinets.
You could even do a dark
color at the
bottom, then tape it for a contrasting
color the rest of the way up to the
cabinets.
