Store
bought fondant is typically full of sugar, hydrogenated fats, additives and preservatives and just adds empty calories.
I used homemade marshmallow fondant for these, which is tastier in my opinion than store -
bought fondants, but I still didn't want a mound of fondant, tasty or not, as the cusps.

Back in August, my lovely friend Tanya asked me to make some chocolate cupcakes for a baby shower, the theme for which was the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, so I did what I could to turn the cupcakes into teacups without resorting to fiddly
fondant or store -
bought teacup paper liners.
Though I did
buy a package of brown, chocolate
fondant for the squares on the checker board and I now have more than half of it left.
I have never really been one for dried figs, dates, apricots, etc (hence the thick
fondant layer), but for some reason I
bought a bag of dried figs at the grocery store on impulse (I really do hate impulse
buys!).

fondant?
Of course you can also use store -
bought marzipan or
fondant which would be a time saver.
