bought pie pumpkins and roasted them, freezing it for use through the winter.
For example, instead of buying a can of pumpkin to make a pumpkin pie,
buy a pie pumpkin.

I always
buy pumpkin pie spice around the holidays, make one
pie, then it goes unused the rest of the year.
I
bought a nice fat
pumpkin and was all set to make
pie, but then I saw this recipe for
pumpkin jam pop up on my feeds and couldn't resist.
I like to make my own
pumpkin pie spice because I fill like it has a more vibrant flavor than the store -
bought blend.

pie or sugar
pumpkins, or the excess
pumpkin puree you
bought during the fall when it was on sale.
These delicious little treats are made with a short list of ingredients:
pie crust (store
bought or homemade - see TIPS below),
pumpkin puree, brown sugar and
pumpkin pie spice.
Since I was using a store -
bought, expensive,
pumpkin pie spice, I thought I might as well make my own version.
If you
buy plain
pumpkin (we suggest this), please, for the love of good
pie, don't forget to add the spices.
Just one piece of advice: Make sure that what you
buy is 100 %
pumpkin — which is totally pure and unprocessed: Just mashed
pumpkin — and not the infamous
pumpkin pie filling - which is highly processed and full of bad - for - you stuff.
2 cups fresh
pumpkin (see above for tips) 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1 12 - ounce can evaporated milk 2 uncooked
pie crusts (use your favorite recipe or — gasp — a store -
bought crust) 2 tsp.
Just make sure you are
buying sodium - free, sugar - free 100 %
pumpkin — not
pumpkin pie filling!
I use a pre-made
pumpkin pie spice because it's easy and because I
bought a pound of it on Amazon and need to use it every opportunity I get You can use a homemade mixture of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves if you prefer.
Ingredients: 2 cups whole, raw, organic milk from grass - fed cows 1 cup organic cream, raw is best, but at least not UHT (ultra-pasteurized) 3 egg yolks from pastured chickens (I don't recommend store -
bought eggs be eaten raw) 2 TBL, or to taste, real maple syrup 2 tsp pure, organic vanilla extract Pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg OR
pumpkin pie spice Dash of unrefined sea salt
Many recipes call for
pumpkin pie spice, which you can usually
buy premade at the store, or make yourself at home.
In the interest of time i used a store
bought pancake mix to which i added cinnamon, nutmeg,
pumpkin pie spice and vanilla.
As some of us contemplated

buying just straight

Start with a fresh
pie pumpkin for best results, and be sure to
buy organic ingredients whenever you can.

First, you can
buy canned
pumpkin puree, but ensure you're not purchasing the
pie filling.
I've also
bought like 4 bags of
pumpkin pie M&M's for myself, haha.
