A rabbit that is spayed is much better using litter
boxes than a rabbit that is not spayed.

In a study done last month in the journal Environment and Behavior, researchers at Cornell University manipulated the gaze of the cartoon
rabbit on Trix cereal
boxes and found that adult subjects were more likely to choose Trix over competing brands if the
rabbit was looking at them rather
than away.
It didn't get much further
than that, though, and eventually five releases overtook it: Twins, Big, Coming to America, Who Framed Roger
Rabbit, and» 88's Best Picture winner and
box office champ, Rain Man.
One teacher said: «If you have got 60 young people coming in... and you have to tick 47
boxes about all of them, of course your mind is going to be on that rather
than talking to them about their nice shiny shoes and about their pet
rabbit at home.»
Make sure to always have multiple litter
boxes all over the room, just in case your
rabbit decides to litter somewhere other
than in the cage.
Most of the time, older
rabbits learn to use their
box and mark their territory occasionally, but some of them are more stubborn
than others.
Then, after the
rabbit stops using a
box for more
than a couple weeks, remove that unused
box.
When I started my rescue for
rabbits more
than 30 years ago, my impression was that
rabbits were not spayed or neutered, given litter
boxes, living indoors or getting proper health care.
While a possibility remains that your bunny could be like that one
rabbit that wouldn't use the
box, it is more likely that even with emotional damage, your rescued bunny will learn to use the litter
box as more
than a place to sleep.
Some owners have also found success by placing more
than one litter
box around the home so their
rabbit does not have to go far in order to find the proper place to «go».
Because Flemish Giants eat so much more
than other
rabbits, they also dirty their litter
boxes much more quickly.
Those
rabbits that are spayed or neutered usually have less litter
box issues
than pet
rabbits that are not spayed or neutered.
IN the summer
rabbits are going to drink a lot more
than they're in the colder weather and you'll have to change the litter
box more often.
These feces have more protein, less fiber and higher levels of certain vitamins, such as B vitamins,
than the typical hard bunny fecal pellets you might see in the litter
box or around your
rabbit's cage.
For example, they found that adults were more likely to buy Trix cereal, if the cartoon
rabbit on the
box looked directly at them, rather
than looking away.
