As I stated earlier, the engine
feels like a
good match for the handling and
braking, presenting the driver
with a balanced — if not modest — performance envelope.
The steering has
good weight and decent feedback; no complaints on the
brakes, and the suspension seems tuned toward comfort but
with a bit of
feel dialed in.
• Intensification of the typical MINI go - kart
feeling with extensively revised suspension technology, reduced weight and increased rigidity; new single - joint spring strut front axle
with aluminium swivel bearing and also axle supports and wishbones made of high - strength steel; new multilink rear axle also in optimised lightweight construction and space - saving geometry; refined electromechanical power steering now
with Servotronic as standard; Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC), in the MINI Cooper S also including Performance Control; new spring and damper set - up
with triple - path support bearings; Dynamic Damper Control optionally available for the first time in MINI; refined
brake system, adapted to increased driving performance; fitted as standard
with 15 - inch steel rims and wheel covers (MINI One, MINI One D) as
well as light alloy wheels in 15 - inch (MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper D) or 16 - inch format (MINI Cooper S); light allow wheels optionally available up to 18 inches.
On my favorite mountain road testing circuit, the Accord was a pretty fun drive
with planted, predictable handling that impressed me and
felt like a
good match
with the performance of Honda's chosen powertrain and
brakes.
Steering,
brakes, and suspension all
feel nicely balanced
with this car's mission in life,
with good damping and great weight to the wheel, preserving the tossability present in the regular 500.
5)
Brakes are nice and linear,
with a
good pedal
feel.
With such high grip limits and stellar
brake performance, it gave us confidence to push the car hard throughout our session, and all the chassis changes did a
good job making this 3,800 - pound car
feel much lighter than it really is.
Slowing matters is also easy
with good brakes that easily scrub speed off
with a firm pedal
feel.
The i30's
brake pedal
feel was the
best in this group and steering feedback was
felt to be at least on a par
with the Golf's.
The
brakes are outrageously
good — among the
best pedal
feel and most progressive stopping action I've ever experienced at any price point, and the enormous P - Zero tires combined
with adaptive damping make the M
feel like it could take a 90 - degree turn at 90 mph without the slightest shriek.
The Mercedes may lose in style, but Jonny says it walks away
with better braking and steering
feel.
Superb handling,
good acceleration
with the 2.4, quick
braking, and it just
feels solid.
Although
well sorted for hard driving, its non-adaptive suspension doesn't deal as
well with real - world conditions, and its carbon - ceramic
brakes sometimes
feel grabby and sound screechy.
Other green systems include the aforementioned regenerative
braking system, which combined nicely
with the conventional
brakes to provide
good feel and smooth control.
Add to that the fact that the
brake and throttle pedals aren't positioned especially
well for heel - and - toe maneuvers, or that the shifter doesn't
feel all that great to row, and you end up
with a sub-excellent manual experience.
Fortunately, the
brakes are
good,
with a steady, linear
feeling, and the Rogue Sport's short wheelbase makes for easy maneuvering in traffic, parking lots and cramped city streets.
As such the GX doesn't inspire you as a driver — and neither do the
brakes with their mushy pedal
feel, though they work
well enough aside from that.
