North along the onetime tidelands fronting the Hudson shore of Bergen Neck in New Jersey, the ocean
breached seawalls and water poured into the streets of Hoboken and Jersey City.
It would then take only one big storm surge to
breach the seawall, just as hurricane Katrina sent floodwaters racing past New Orleans's levees.
King tides now regularly
breach seawalls meant to protect Torres Strait Island communities, and it happened again last week.
