in public (apart from support group) since he was 18 mths and that was as I had a blocked duct!
While some of the country seems to be coming around, and campaigns like #freethenipple are
becoming increasingly common, women who
breastfeed in public are still sometimes looked down upon.

becomes an offence to stop nursing mothers from
breastfeeding their children
in public places (including the
breastfeeding of toddlers
in premises where children are already allowed).
The estimated percentage of US children aged 2 to 5 years and 6 to 11 years classified as overweight increased from 5.0 % and 6.5 %
in 1980 to 10.4 % and 19.6 %, respectively,
in 2007 -2008.1-3 The increase
in childhood obesity was also observed among those aged 6 to 23 months, from 7.2 %
in 1980 to 11.6 %
in 2000.1 Given the numerous health risks related to childhood obesity,4 - 7 its prevention is
becoming a
public health priority.8 It has been reported that feeding practices affect growth and body composition
in the first year of life, with
breastfed infants gaining less rapidly than formula - fed infants.9 - 14 There is also evidence that
breastfed infants continue to have a low risk for later childhood obesity.15 - 18
I am fairly comfortable nursing
in public, but as my daughter got a little older she
became very easily distracted while
breastfeeding.

breastfeeding risk being vilified by the

While

in public seems to be fairly well accepted, the older a child gets, the less tolerant the
public becomes should a woman choose to continue nursing.

becomes second nature.
