HD displays, powerful processors, and big name games are competing for our attention across numerous handheld consoles, and all of them boast brilliantly
bright backlit screens that our younger selves could only dream about.
The problem with devices such as the Apple iPad and other LCD based tablets is because of
the bright backlit screen is not comfortable for long reading experiences and is more geared towards casual endeavors.

Many people who spend a lot of time reading appreciate e-paper displays, which are thin and light enough to hold in one hand, easier on the eyes than
backlit LCD
screens and viewable in
bright sunlight.
Night mode is of course meant for
backlit LCD tablets, phones, and computers to help minimize the
bright white light emitted from the
screen while staring at it for long lengths of time while reading, especially at night.

bright screen on my iPad keeps me awake if I read before I go to sleep, research suggests the glow from
backlit screens could contribute to insomnia.
A lit case is a brilliant innovation because some ereaders like the Keyboard, Touch and the basic Amazon designs are not
backlit, i.e. they doesn't work like a
bright screen computer or mobile phone.
The best and most expensive readers use extremely high - resolution E Ink
screens that work better in daylight than at night (you'll need good indoor lighting or a clip - on light if you're planning to do most of your e-reading in the evenings); LCD -
screen readers (such as the Elonex) have
backlit screens that favor indoor use and (like computer
screens) can be tricky to read in
bright sunlight.
Like other
backlit LCD
screens, the display of the Libre Touch washes out completely in
bright sunlight, so it isn't a top choice for the beach.
I'd much rather have some color on the
screen than none, even if it's not as crisp and
bright as a
backlit display offers.
As with all e-ink, it's easy to read in
bright light, as it doesn't get washed out in direct sunlight like LCD does, but since the
screen isn't
backlit, you do need some light source to read.
Also, the highly reflective,
backlit touch
screen, while
bright and highly legible in normal light, is difficult to impossible to read in
bright light.
They're unsurpassed in
bright light, free from distractions, and don't cause eye strain like a
backlit LCD
screen can.

screens — the LED lights are more energy efficient and the
bright light helps with image quality.
It also offers a comfortable
backlit keyboard and a
bright screen.
