It's not enough to just identify that there are other
qualities that are
brought to bear because in actual fact being a
professional teacher, I believe, is about understanding how these things work with the
learning, with the outcomes that you desire.
The Saul Zaentz Early Education Initiative kicked off its
professional learning efforts this week
bringing together state - level leaders from across the United States and its territories to discuss how to develop higher
quality early care settings.
If we see impact evaluation as a high
quality learning tool for
professionals as well as young people, we can
bring about a step change in its application: fewer «happy» sheets and more evidence of real difference.
These goals serve as the primary tenants for advancing the high school renewal work to: 1) establish system coherence by aligning central office and site programs, and accelerating student
learning by leveraging and expanding knowledge and skills among staff, parents, and community members; 2) improve the
quality of instructional leadership by providing ongoing
professional development for school leaders; 3) improve the
quality of teaching throughout the district through embedded
professional development; 4) increase student engagement in the
learning process by personalizing
learning environments to build on student interests; 5) increase community involvement in schools by giving principals ownership of the change process, expanding student voice, and
bringing parents and students into the school renewal process.
To improve their effectiveness, however, teachers need
quality professional development and the motivation to
learn and practice the new instructional strategies and reforms that CSR
brings.
They have hosted and facilitated panels, met with decision - makers locally and statewide, and this year they will be working in Seattle to
bring high -
quality early
learning options for every family and statewide to pass legislation defining standards for high -
quality professional development.
While it's fair to say that the Obama administration's emphasis on the importance of high -
quality teachers has
brought increased visibility to notions about
professional development, it first became an issue when the Madison School District
learned in the last decade that its proud reputation for academic achievement doesn't hold up when it comes to minority students.
