MC: I learned a lot from Eddie, just about how complicated and how complex it is to be a
young designer trying to
bring something new into the world.
We wanted to give a big shout out to all the
young and up - and - coming artists,
designers, and photographers who came down to the T.Sq Newsstand last night and
brought their portfolios for Juxtapoz Ed
For example, the role of International partnership is presented by the case of Eyeworks + M1, two Los Angeles based eyeglass
designers that, in order to produce their innovative glass frames, have found a small manufacturer in a Dolomites» village with which they developed their projects; the cross-breeding between social networks and craftsmanship is represented through the story of Formabilio that, starting from a web community, now produce furniture and home accessories conceived by
young designers, realized by local manufactures and sold online; the evolution of traditional craft techniques to realize high - quality products is expressed by the case of Bonotto, that combines mechanical looms with advanced technology,
bringing craft into an industrial factory to produce unique textiles for the most renowned and innovative fashion brands.
Taiwanese design studio Kamaro'an
brings together local skilled indigenous weavers and
young designers to create contemporary objects that reinvent traditional aesthetics and materials.
The expressive design of the nearly all - black work as well as its conceptual nature
bring to mind the charred furniture of the
young Dutch
designer Maarten Baas, such as in Smoke Armchair, now on view in the European Design Since 1985 exhibition at the High Museum.
Organized by Los Angeles - based
designer Jimenez Lai of Bureau Spectacular and the Graham Foundation, Treatise
brings together fourteen

young designers by highlighting the environmental impact of design and material choices.
