a broken connector, if it isn't broken already.

Don't worry, you can't
break anything except the electrical
connector, and they are pretty tough.
That looks like a flex
connector that has
broken off.
The most likely place for it to
break is right where the wire goes into the headlight
connector.
If there isn't one that reads 12V, you have a
break or burn somewhere between the under hood fuse box and the headlight
connector.
Rather, when cleaning off the dirt, you might pull off parts of frail seals or
break old plastic
connectors, etc..
I'm reasonably confident that once I find the right relay, it'll be plain sailing, but since this is my first mod I'd appreciate a comment on whether crossing the
connectors risks

If you have power then check for
broken wires at the brake switch

It could be a main door lock switch,

connector, failed control module or simply a blown fuse.

I tried to align the battery to where it should go while it was still connected, in the process I
broke one of the soldered connections on the battery
connector.
Did you do a drop test to see if the cable easily bends /
breaks at the
connector if the phone is dropped or knocked down while charging.
I'm not super psyched about the attachment mechanism for these wires, which is an industry - standard MMCX
connector: those can wear down if you switch around a lot, so I'd suggest sticking with one cable until it
breaks down or you find one that's somehow better.
