I like the lighter color
burlap for projects like this.

I rolled
the burlap ribbon around the shade, then pulled it tight and cut it right where I needed to glue it down at the seam.
Cut
the burlap into pennant shapes (I purchased mine pre-cut with the edges sewn from the craft store.)
I have some red
