My 44k miles 1.6 TDi after a 2m down hill drive from cold and stopped at lights began to smoke -
burning the oil smell which lasted fo several miles.Engine has now apparently returned to normal.
Having a 2004 Escape which developed
the burning oil smell just when you put it on the market.

One more fact is, dirty
oil can not keep the car engine cool, hence, it may cause the car engine to
smell like a
burnt fuel while running.
