business and technology and things work and so I'm curious about how you go about integrating filing systems and phone numbers and all that
kind of stuff when you're trying to bring practices together, so maybe it didn't apply as much when you took over Eric Brockton's practice but the second time around you're integrating two sorts
of going firms.
They liked working on bigger deals, but I really still liked
kind of the ins and outs, and the strategy
stuff with the smaller and medium sized
businesses.
Then that
business ends up going and hiring property managing companies and all that
kind of stuff and it's not just one person owning the building necessarily.
That's when I realized that all the
kind of putting up having a
business plan for all these years and not knowing who my target client is and what my cost per lead is, all these numbers that you hear people throw out in podcasts and at seminars, everybody trying to sell you
stuff, but those numbers they do actually have some significance.
In this podcast Joe and I talk about how he recovered from the shittiest month he ever had in his firm and part
of that for him was the realization that he actually needed to start working on his
business and we
kind of talked about why it's hard for lawyers to get going on
stuff like that but I
kind of want to spin off
of that and talk about why does it seem so hard for small businessman, small firms, lawyers, to do the things they know they need to do.
But when then you start to look at the middle managers, the supervisors, and people that have grown in the
business and quite often don't know how to do this
kind of stuff and are focused on hitting a target or a number and not understanding the impact
of spending time with their team, growing their team, slowing down every day to show that they care about the personal lives
of their teammates.
As a hiring manager, when I see a listing
of industry or
business buzz words it's
kind of a turnoff, because I expect the person to be hot
stuff.
Newbies or those with no
business contemplate that
kind of stuff.
This
kind of stuff is just part
of the rental property
business.
