man can only exhibit objectively a change in his own disposition, a
faith which directs his life and a belief in its significance, in the actual
business of living.
All evangelicals were agreed that basic piety was essential in the individual called — that «he whose
business it is to convert
men to Christ should himself be converted; he who is to guide believers should himself be a
man of faith «71 — and that «for the lack
of this, no talents, however brilliant or attractive, can compensate.
