But, what happens to your site when non-relevant (or worse,
spam) ones decide to start
linking to you instead?
Today, this could still theoretically be beneficial,
but to a much lesser degree; aside from that, it's actually the # 1 way Google identifies
link spam, so I recommend avoiding it altogether.
I tried to post two comments earlier
but I guess putting in a
link was seen as
spam.
If you click through, you see that it's a perfect
spam page, composed of nothing
but ads and a
link to a random article on e.politics.

but it enables automatically when somebody adds
links in comments as it will be recognized as
spam; P

links people try to post here are actually to pirate sites (which never make it past my
spam filter),
but this is legit.
It's tempting to get on Twitter and do nothing
but talk about our books and share
links to our books,
but that puts most people to sleep or worse, you annoy them and they unfollow or report you for
spam.

I am not saying that you should
spam your book with
links and affiliate offers,
but you can sprinkle them in where you feel it is appropriate.
If you look closely at these groups, you'll discover that they're nothing
but spam pages with author after author dropping
links and yelling «Buy my book!»
They are on Twitter to promote themselves, not by constantly
spamming people with buy my books
links,
but also not to spend most of their time in private conversation.
I wouldn't
spam the blogs,
but if you discretely put the
link to your (for example) book for sale on Amazon in your signature, I think that's a good way to go.

link to your comments will likely land them in the
spam folder or trash on most popular sites.
Normally it's not good to post a
link in your first answer (it can be interpreted as
spam),

There are lot's of ways to tweet
links to art * without *
spamming,
but even when I love someone's art, I won't follow them if their twitter feed is nothing
but links to new listings on Etsy or whatever.
Mainly IMHO at the moment, although there are one or two studies which hint at this (I did try and

but Pinterest blocked it and said that it may lead to
Spam, Nudity, or other inappropriate stuff.
