The bombshell of December 2017 was the news that Crytek was suing Cloud Imperium Games and Roberts Space Industries, the companies behind the sprawling and controversial crowdfunded MMO Star Citizen, alleging that
CIG infringed its copyrights
by using CryEngine to develop non-Star Citizen game assets in the form of Squadron 42 while misusing Crytek's logo in marketing materials and Crytek's CryEngine in the form of Star Engine.
THE STAR CITIZEN PROJECT IS IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE After raising over $ 150 million in crowd - funding, plus unknown investor amounts and bank loans, on June 13th, 2017,
CIG / RSI took out a high - risk loan secured
by all the assets backers had poured money into, over a five year period.

by saying all this content is optional, that only those who can afford it should buy it, and everything will be obtainable in - game.
I hope
CIG stick to their intention that early access sales are just a way for dedicated players to throw some money into the pot and won't end up creating a split community of «those who benefited
by paying before launch» and «those who didn't».
In a post in that same thread, however,
CIG's Ben Lesnick explained that Smart's refund is «the videogame equivalent of a «we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone» sign in a restaurant,» and said that while the studio does try to «work with backers who are facing hardships,» the money received through the crowdfunding campaign is being spent on making the game and,
by implication, is thus not available to give back to anyone who wants it.
Why has
CIG spent time on creating bullshit stuff, all pumped from StarWars and Dune lores, and claimed to be tech proof of concept

So it stands to reason that it would be even unwise considering that not even
CIG is likely to be around
by the time the legal dust settles.
And
by their own words and actions, that is precisely what I believe
