I simply was experimenting with a whole host
of desserts and for a big family dinner, I prepared a crumble which was inspired
by one
of Ella's recipes from her blog.
So I wanted to share an awesome summery
dessert inspired
by Wimbledon, which
of course meant it had to involve the quintessential strawberries and cream!
After a welcome glass
of Prosecco, there'll be a warming seasonal soup to start the meal, followed
by a delicious plant - based Christmas roast and two festive
desserts.
We will then all sit down to a delicious dinner catered
by The Mae deli, including a delicious spread
of salads, organic cold - pressed juices and the most amazing array
of desserts too!
The repast, besides pastry and
dessert, consisted
of upwards
of forty dishes; and, amongst other triumphs
of the native cuisine, were some singular, but
by no means inelegant, chefs - d'oeuvre: brinjals [eggplants] boiled, and stuffed with savoury meats, but exhibiting ripe and undressed fruit, growing on the same branch, and bread - fruit, baked and seasoned with the green leaves and flowers, fresh and uninjured
by the fire.
The sweetness
of the custard is complimented
by the slightly tart rhubarb, and the crunch
of the pecans in the crust complete this
dessert beautifully!
Gluten and dairy free,
of course, today's
dessert (or binge snack) was inspired
by a few concepts.
I'm not a vegan, but
by default all
of my
desserts will be vegan.
Inspired
by the current trend toward more savoury
desserts (like the miso éclairs at Libertine Bakehouse here in Montreal) and a recent trip to Japan (which I should probably get around to writing about at SOME point), they are the perfect combination
of delicious and fool proof.
