I had purchased some milk paint made
by Folk Art a few months ago.
Marisol (Maria Sol Escobar)(b. 1930) Influenced
by folk art, her metal and wood figurative sculptures, typically arranged in groups, were shown at the influential Art of Assemblage exhibition, at MoMA Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Folk Art Martin Ramirez's «Untitled (Caballero with Red and Blue Patterns)» will be presented
by the folk art department.

by folk art in general.
His work is strongly inspired
by folk art, both Western and non-Western, as seen in works such as Spare Time Shooting Practice (1978), a series of layered synthetic fabrics in polka dot, paisley, and floral prints, resembling a classic American quilt.
Influenced at this time
by folk art and other Russian themes, he began exhibiting his primitive paintings at various avant - garde exhibitions including the Second Izbedskii Salon exhibition in Odessa (1910), the Union of Youth group show in St Petersburg (1911), The Donkey's Tail Group Exhibition in Moscow (1912), the World of Art show in St Petersburg (1912 - 1913) and the Knave of Diamonds Group Exhibition in Moscow (1913).
The group show, whose title is inspired by a song from the 1970s funk band the Ohio Players, looks at issues of society, sexuality and black womanhood — in works that are variously inspired
by folk art traditions, Afro - Caribbean folklore and myriad other artistic practices.
After his father died he moved to Moscow where he studied painting, sculpture and architecture, developing a «Cubo - futuristic» style that was influenced
by his folk art roots.

by guest curator, Thomas McEvilley, this exhibition was presented at both The New Museum and the American
Folk Art Museum.
Paperworks, organized for the Craft &

by independent curator Howard N. Fox, is on view from September 27, 2015 through January 3, 2016.
The exhibition will also feature works from the High's distinguished collection of
