by opponents of school choice programs to deny parents the right to select the schools that are best for their kids.

We need to ensure that we don't diminish the distinctiveness
of these
choices by allowing
opponents (or even allies) to insert language that would undercut
school autonomy or religious liberty.
Last week, several news outlets circulated a report
by the U.S. Department
of Education's research division that found negative results for students who participated in the District
of Columbia's Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP), the only private
school choice program for low - income children in Washington, D.C. Predictably,
opponents of school choice descended on the report to tout it as evidence that
school choice does not work.
However, the
opponents of school choice could not stand
by and allow 753 students to attend a private
school.
Stephens ran an excellent campaign but Rogers, who has been a consistent
opponent of school choice, held on to win
by a 300 vote margin.
Despite this growing consensus,
opponents of school choice programs persist in their attempts to spread fear among parents and the general public
by falsely accusing these programs
of undermining local public
schools and
of further restricting educational access.
They are also among the most vocal
opponents of school choice policies that have been considered
by the state legislature in recent years.

of performance, are held to account
by contract and open to parents
by choice.
Evers is largely supported
by public
school advocates and Democrats while Holtz is running as a conservative
choice, appealing to
school voucher supporters and
opponents of the Common Core State Standards.

by her supporters as a tireless, driven supporter
of school choice,
opponents say she is the most ideological and anti-public education nominee ever to be put forward to run the the nearly 40 - year - old department.
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, a vocal
