With as many as one in four people buying pups directly online, through social media, from pet shops or free newspaper ads, outlets often used
by puppy farmers, it is a growing problem.
To many puppy farmers cashing in their popularity, people buying them from backs of cars brought to
them by puppy farmers, and they are usually ill with worms and disease, lovely dogs, shame about some of the owners.
This is a sales trick used
by some puppy farmers to make the buyer feel that they are rescuing something, which in reality probably has numerous health defects.
Kennel Club research for its Puppy Awareness Week campaign 2013, which takes place again on 1 - 7 September 2014, estimates that as many as one in three people could potentially have bought from a puppy farm, after sourcing their pup online, in a pet store, or via a free ad in a newspaper — all outlets that are commonly used
by puppy farmers.

by members of the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme; the only scheme in the UK which sets standards for and monitors dog breeders and whose breeders provide a contract of sale.
