If you get a civil judgment against you, remove your money from your bank accounts to prevent your account being seized
by the
debt collector.

by paying less — which is advisable as many
collectors buy
debts for pennies on the dollar anyway — make sure you have an agreement in writing that the account will be deleted from your credit file (s) before paying a dime.

debt collector; and (5) a statement that, upon the consumer's written request within the thirty - day period, the
debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor,
if different from the current creditor.
