Hundreds of animals arrive at HSNB each month, especially during kitten season, and there are many times when we simply don't have any kennel or
cage space available.
With lots of post-surgery and recovery
cage space available, you can continue to help grasp animal overpopulation with ease.

A few commercially
available cages provide larger - than - normal
space.
They are fed on time, have plenty of water
available, their
cages are cleaned, their coats are groomed and trimmed, their illnesses are cured and what is more, these animals are presented with more
space than before.
The current law requires that animals can not be euthanized for 5 days and under the new law, even then, shelters must look for reasonable alternatives and specifically, «shall ensure... [t] here are no empty
cages, kennels, or other living environments in the shelter that are suitable for the animal; [t] he animal can not share a
cage or kennel with appropriately sized primary living
space with another animal; [a] foster home is not
available»; a rescue on the registry can not accept the animal.
However, if adoption is not
available for a healthy cat and the only option is euthanasia because an agency has too many cats, not enough
cage space, not enough money, not enough foster homes — then returning the cat to his environment should be considered.
A suggested minimum is four square feet of floor
space for a pair and this is only if daily exercise outside of the
cage is
available.
Instead of filling every
available cage, staff worked toward freeing up enough
cages to give each cat the
space of two
cages.
But with capacity for care in mind, a shelter's population limit is derived not just from
cage space, but also from
available staffing and volunteer hours.
The more animals that are returned home increases the
available cage space for other incoming animals.
New
cages or condos that meet both floor
space and double compartment housing guidelines are
available for purchase in a variety of materials.
The ideal hamster
cage is safe and kept clean, and once those qualities are met, choosing which hamster
cage or habitat is best for you and your hamster is often determined by
available space and budget.
There are also a small number of kennels and
cages available for animals waiting for
space to be freed up in the public adoption area.
Depending on
available cage space, CAP may accept a stray animal and try, through our Lost and Found Program, to locate the owners.
What looks like a big pitch suddenly turns into a small

space available to move around in.
